  Instructor Skillday Course Outline

<< Back

As you have already achieved an excellent rating in your skills during your PTR certification test, we will be looking to hone in on the  finer details of improving your overall skills base. During the day we shall be pairing you up with other coaches on the course to assist you with your skills development. It will be a personalised course for each person, as a pupil you will get to make specific alterations     to your demonstration strokes and as the coach it will give you an opportunity to work on the finer points of skills with a good       standard player. So this Skillday package will give you two benefits in one!

The cost of this course is £10 to qualify you should either hold an instructor skills rating.

Course timetable

9:00am - 9:30am Registration
9:30am -10:00am Warm up Period - We will rotate you in this so you can hit with different people to begin assessing each other.
10:00 - 11:00am Service Specifics - Understanding personal technical differences whilst maintaining core demonstration skills and accuracy. This is a group practice designed to make you think out of the box.
11:00 -12:00pm Groundstroke Specifics - We will put you in groups to work on forehand drives. We will give all coaches an opportunity to teach and be taught in this period. Learn how you can move your forehand to the next level. During this hour we need to address differences between single and double-handed backhands. Also the fact that as a coach you should be prepared to teach what is required to pupils rather than what you can do skill-wise! Again you as coaches will help each other out offering and receiving tips on stroke improvement for you to work on.
12:00pm - 1:00pm Net skills - Coaches can easily neglect volleying skills, but as a PTR core stroke you need to be able to play your volleys with a good technical foundation. We shall ensure you finish the morning with the right grip, ready position and stroke mechanics in your volleying skills. If we have time we may finish the morning with the PTR Approach Shot drill to hit your volleys on the move!
1.00pm - 2.00pm lunch Lunch
2:00pm - 3:00pm Speciality time - With drop shots, half volley and approach shots. Sometimes players find the speciality strokes easy some find it hard, but often it is the application to specific details which cause these strokes to be marked down on skills tests. We will eradicate this for you, plus we shall work on the feeding skills to prompt good replies from these strokes.
3:00pm - 4:00pm Lobs and smashes and review - We shall look at topspin lobs and ways to improve your smash if required in this section. Also you will have time to review any strokes or feeding items you wish with each other, in groups or generally with your course tutor in the wrap-up.
